Title: An Integrated Management Framework for the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve

Year: 2015

Author(s): Matt Bakker, SFU; Jessica Daniels, SFU; Ulrike Ellermann, SFU; Claudia Hodl, SFU; Rodrigo Solis-Sosa, SFU

Type: Student Paper

Description:
A review of the CSBR indicates that TOMM is ideally suited to tackle current tourism management challenges in the area. Therefore, this report introduces TOMM - a management approach that establishes best practices and integrates the communitys existing goals and management programs into a comprehensive and coherent framework - offers a background on biosphere reserves - the evolution of a tourism destination - and provides an example for potential implementation of TOMM in the CSBR. For the example we generated desired, yet achievable, economic, environmental, socio-cultural, and experiential conditions based on existing data and selected matching indicators to achieve measurability of these conditions.

Year: 2014

Author(s): Jessica Hutchinson; Lily Burke; Warren Warttig

Type: Report (unpublished)

Description:
The Kennedy Flats Watershed is located in Clayoquot Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. Much of the watershed was logged between 1950 and 1980. Logging practices of the time were not designed to protect wildlife or fish habitat, and as a result many of the streams in the area have reduced fish access, poor water quality, and lack the necessary characteristics to support healthy and diverse wildlife populations. Central Westcoast Forest Society (CWFS) initiated the Kennedy Watershed Restoration Project in 1994 to address the conditions affecting wildlife and wild salmon productivity. Since that time, CWFS restoration crews have been working to restore the hydrological and ecological functions of the watershed. ...
